It has been said the 20th century is the century of physics. Today, experts say the 21st century is the century of biology. This is a very general statement using a very general term. However, stories of success and work progress in Life Science disci-plines within the last decade indicate how close we develop along this prophecy. Biotechnology as part of the Life Sciences is supposed to be one of the key indus-tries of this century. It is expected to contribute to problem solving in food and energy supply, medicine, environmental technology, chemistry and other. The job is to identify new materials and organisms, design new processes in order to transit production pathways from conventional to renewable sources, to improve efficient use of material and energy, to reduce environmental impact, or simply to create new products and services.
But, this master study programme is not only about science. Engineering is the natural companion to science as it is the answer on demands to set up methods and processes from lab into marketable technical scale. This has always been and will be the job of chemical or process engineers.
The labour market in the EU is in strong need of highly skilled engineers and scien-tists to hire personnel for research and development or management. Graduating as Master of Science from this programme you will acquire up-to-date theoretical and practical methods of biotechnology and chemical / process engineering. Your pro-file will be of special interest for small and medium-sized companies as you will be qualified in science and engineering.
Once in the company, it is up to you: Work on your career as a specialist or be a generalist and an executive. The German Master degree will pave the way for you in nearly every country around the world.
